Instructions: Using Windows

To extract files from a zipped compressed folder

1.Open My Computer, and then locate the compressed folder.

2.Do one of the following:

  • To extract a single file or folder, double-click the compressed folder to open it. Then, drag the file or folder from the compressed folder to a new location.

  • To extract all files or folders, right-click the compressed folder, and then click Extract All. In the Compressed (zipped) Folders Extraction Wizard, specify where you want to store the extracted files.
  • Note

  • To open My Computer, click Start, and then click My Computer.

  • You can identify compressed folders by the zipper on the folder icon.

  • If the file is protected with a password, you must provide the password before the file can be extracted to the folder you specify.

  • When you extract a file, a compressed version remains in the compressed folder. To delete the compressed version, right-click the file, and then click Delete.

  • When you extract a file from a compressed folder that is password protected, the extracted file is no longer protected.

  • Instructions: Using WinRAR

1: Download the WinRAR program. Although the program is free to try, to unlock the full version, you will need to purchase a license. To download it, simply go to the WinRAR official site, locate the "trial version" link, and then download the installer. Then click on the installer to install the program.

2: Highlight the zipped file by clicking on it once. Then right-click on it. A submenu will pop up. You will see the WinRAR logo next to an "unzip now" option. Click on this icon to launch the WinRAR unzip application.

3: Select an extract point for your files. If you are unzipping more than one file, it is best to create a new folder for the files in a place where you will remember it. Once the folder has been created, select it as the "extract to" location.

4: Press the start button. WinRAR will extract the file to the selected folder and display it within the WinRAR window. The files will now be accessible both through the WinRAR interface, as well as in the folder you selected as the extraction point.

    Winrar(32-bit)
    Winrar(64-bit)
If you are not sure which operating system you have use the 32-bit version. This is the trial version of the Winrar compression software.
